7 Supplements to be avoided or don't have benefits at all

Many of us wanted to be healthy, but to be healthy means that you need to do a lot of things, from the diet up to the workouts. Many of us have read some article, blogs or some book on how to be healthy. Few example of this are; have a balance diet, exercise daily, get enough sleep or rest and take some supplements to have more effectiveness.

Or do they?

Recent research studies have found that this supplements will not likely to slim your body down, bulk up those muscle or energize you but also it is likely to be harmful the body.

Many of this supplements result of many ER visit in the US due to its harmful effects not the benefits. And the Department of Justice have filled criminal and civil enforcement actions against this makers.

Here are the supplements that should be avoided and should be taken:

1.       Protein Powder (Skip it and eat beans, tofu, fish and meat instead)

Consider to be the most marketed and best-selling product, protein is necessary for building muscle and weight gain.
But proteins can be acquire in the diet, especially fish, meat, beans and tofu are the good source of it. Many companies are accused of spiking their protein with cheap filler- another reason to avoid powder products.

2.       Weight Loss Pills (Hydroxycut): Skip it- their claims are questioned

Weight lose pill are also one most marketed supplements in the market, the example for this is Hydroxycut. It claims that it will help to slim with the use of “pro clinical” ingredients. The formula contains a stimulant called ephedera, which is linked to many deaths and banned by Food and Drugs Administration in 2003.

3.       Antioxidants – Skip them, instead eat berries

Antioxidants such lipoic acid, polyphenols, coenzyme Q10 and other vitamins can be found many fruits and vegetables, especially berries and can help to fight cancer.
But studies suggest that excess antioxidants in the body may have a harmful effects. A large, long-term study of male smokers found out that who took vitamin A regularly will likely to get lung cancer than those who did not.

4.       Workout Boosters (Jack3d and Oxy Elite Pro) : Skip It

This products have active ingredients of dimethylamylamine or DMAA, claims that it will increased speed, endurance and strength.
Also this product had been linked to illness and at least one death.

5.       Green Coffee Extract: Skip it – a single study of it had been pulled.

"You may think magic is make-believe, but this little bean has scientists saying they've found the magic weight-loss cure for every body type," Dr. Mehmet Oz said of green coffee extract on his show in 2012.
But only study, had backed up this claims of weight loss capabilities and was funded by its manufacturer. The study retracted a month later.

6.       Fish Oil Pills: Skip Them – instead eat Salmon

It is been claimed that Omega 3 that can be found in the fish oil boost the brain functions.
But the evidence isn't very strong. A 2012 review of three large studies found that omega-3 supplements taken for anytime between five months and three years didn't improve memory or verbal skills in older people who did not have dementia at the start of each study.
"Direct evidence on the effect of omega-3 ... on incident dementia is lacking," the study's authors wrote.

7.       Gingko Biloba: Skip it – studies don’t proves it

Gingko biloba, is one best-selling products in terms of memory loss and marketed for “brain booster”.
Evidence of this product was inconsistent. While a small 2006 study found it to be effective as the drug donepezil for boosting attention and memory in people with mild to moderate Alzheimer's, a large 2008 study of healthy older people found no evidence that it helped to prevent dementia, including Alzheimer's. A 2009 follow-up study found no evidence that gingko biloba slowed cognitive decline or memory loss.

That is the seven supplements that, we consider to be helpful in achieving healthy body but instead some of them are harmful to us, while others don’t have any benefits at all or pure marketing strategy of the products.

Hopefully, this post will enlightens us about the supplements on what not to take.

In my next post, will give a list supplements that have benefits to us or that is necessary for our body towards achieving healthy body.
