Women with no appendix, have more chance in getting pregnant

A 15-year study suggest that women, which their tonsils and appendix had been remove may be more fertile than expected.

Medical records of far more than half a million of British women had been analyzed by the researchers, at the University of Dundee.

The study found out that for every 100 pregnancies in women who had no procedures there where:

·         149 pregnancies in women that their tonsils being remove
·         134 pregnancies in women that their appendix are being remove
·         And about 143 pregnancies in women that both are being remove

Researchers argue the operations could have been directly affect or there may be a “behavioral” explanations.

Many experts said that this latest findings may lead to a new treatment, but they advised that women should not to intentionally remove the tonsils and appendix.

Most doctors had been wrongly taught about having an appendix being removed may damage the fertility, according to Dr. Sami Shimi, One of the researchers.

"This study is very important in reassuring young women that appendectomy will not reduce their chances of future pregnancy”, according to Dr. Shimi in BBC.

"More importantly, looking at both the appendix and tonsils together, this study confirms beyond doubt that removal of inflamed organs or organs likely to suffer from repeated inflammation, in women, improves their chances of pregnancy."

One of the biological possibility is that regularly infected tonsils and appendix may lead to elevated levels of inflammation in the body, which greatly affects the ovaries and the womb.

The researchers favor the behavioral explanation such a women enjoying more “liberal sexual activity”, being both likely to get pregnant or having inflammatory disease that may lead to the removal of appendix.

Still this topic needs a lot of research.
